Mini Post on Mini Art Club

Bon giorno!

I thought I'd do a mini post on mini art club as we have recently made a mini film for Manchester Art Gallery.

Mini Art Club is a free monthly session created for children ages 0-5. (My Favourite!!)
Michiko is the lady who creates a new world of visual and interactive delight each month, and I'm her helperer. I have taken my camera each time to capture lovely mini moments and its been brilliant!
This film is from the August session focusing on Light. (Which I was very familiar with from working at Reggio Emilia fanatics Reflections Nursery - Always loving light!)

I have a back catalogue of little clips from over the months that hopefully will make themselves into films soon.

I have recently been approached by the Cultural Volunteers Coordinators Forum, (who work with Manchester Art Gallery and lots of other galleries and museums) to make an 8 minute film to promote volunteering around Manchester. Fingers crossed I get picked as the most bestest candidate.

Ciao,

Lady Wild

Manchester Art Gallery

Jessica here,
We were extremely privileged to be asked to make a film for Manchester Art Gallery to be part of the Pre-Raphaelite Experiment - a year long investigation into what the Pre-Raphaelite paintings mean to Mancunians today.

I worked alongside some lovely artists as part of the month long project Far Far Away: A Summer of Stories for Families.

As always,
Filmed by Jess (and additional footage by some of the galleries handy employees)
and Music by Dan

I'm very excited to be part of this exhibition. I have visited the gallery from a very young age, as did my parents and my grandparents. I think my granddad used to come and see the exhibitions instead of going to school!

This film and other related material will be exhibited at the end of the month until April 2012.

Go have a lookie.
Oh and if you have enough money (£8) go and see the Ford Maddox Brown exhibition, I went to the preview with Miss Lauren Berry, (and even though we missed the free booze,) it was an incredible collection of work!

Mixtape 1 - FIRST BLOG UP NORTH!!!

Hello!

We've decided to make a mixtape every week which you can download by clicking the image below. This week we have tried to make a soundtrack for an imaginary film. It's quite eclectic but we think it's a good listen.

Wild Bees Mixtape 1

Please note that we do not own any of the material in this playlist, we are happy to remove it immediately if the owner of the copyright so wishes.

It's been ages since we've posted a blog, so here we are! We've been very busy moving to Manchester (Chorlton Cum- Hardy to be precise). We're all settled in and have already attended several surprisingly debauched house parties in what we thought was a relatively sleepy suburb.

So what have we been up to other than partying like Charlie Sheen?

Jess has been working here freelance running art workshops for little people (that means children not the vertically challenged).

Dan has been working freelance for this lot running music technology workshops in a studio that features in the film 24 hour party people with the happy mondays (well, actors pretending to be the happy mondays)!

Keep your eyes peeled for next week's mix!

Nordic Giants - Little Bird feat. Alyusha Live

We graced playgroup with our presence to capture Nordic Giants unveiling their new single Little Bird feat. Alyusha.

They put on a riveting gig with they're great combination of ethereal post-rock and beautiful/brutal films projected to their performance.

Visit myspace.com/nordicgiants for more tunes and info!

Hopefully they'll come to visit Manchester and we can record their next single.

Moving up North!

Living down south has been great, but now I'm ready fer home town and Mister Bee is ready for a Northern change. New bands to film and harass!

Chorlton, Manchester.

Our rent is half the amount we are paying in Brighton! It's just as central, and just as big (it actually has taller ceilings) And Chorlton, is a buzzin place to live. It's got a Metro link now and everything.

The North - South divide is interesting. I wonder where it started.

Northerners think that southerners are rude and boring, and Southerns think that Northerners are poor and stupid, which according to research in Sheffield, is true.

"People living in the south are likely to be better educated and earn more money than their northern counterparts"
"Southerners will also have more doctors and dentists to treat them - but are less likely to be ill."

So we get ill more as well.

I'm trying to find a starting point. I wish I would have paid more attention in History about the Romans and the Vikings. I think the Vikings were pretty cool about the North, they chose to live in North, and that's something.
Maybe I'll buy a book.

I have been picked up on my words a lot since living in Brighton, and have probably had to adapt my accent and slang words. But now I'm going to embrace them once more, and also pass them on to Mister Bee.

I have been racking my brains, of all the slang once used when I used to live in Lancashire, now sadly repressed.

Bag 'ed, buzzin, chuddy,  soz, owt, nowt, bomb it, peggit, kecks, gegs, skennin,  dafty, jolly dancers, wazzuck, widgy, you lying get, giv ower,
ava gora telly on me ed?

I can't think of anymore and I really should be packing for this move.

Wild Bees go North, (where bands are proper more buzzin like)

Wild Bees vs Bear

This is taken from the "Born Survivor" series of Bear Grylls. Bear's real name is Edward Michael Grylls.

Eddy Grylls.
"Out of all the massive, lethal, agressive man eating crocs, snakes and aligators....the one that gets me is a bee! Typical"

Ha!

Well, after all those harmless insects and animals you have eaten alive on your stupid STUPID show, you deserve this!

Feel the wrath of the bees on your stupid face!!

New Three Trapped Tigers and Nordic Giants Gig

Beeutiful!

Here are the Three Trapped Tiger's videos from Meadowlands Festival.

CREEPIES

Quite different edits, but both buzzin!

We went to shoot Nordic Giants last night.
Their set was incredibuzzingly bee-riliant, accompanied by some amazing films and some of the best outfits I have seen on stage,
probably better than that Elton John!
I was quite sad that I didn't know it was a fancy affair or else I would have got my bee costume on.

The footage and the recordings are a treat to the ears and eyes.
We cant wait to share them with you.

Keep your peepers posted,

Mo' filming mo' babble!

The other day we finished our Glass Diamond promo.

They said it was "very cool".

I'm just finishing the Three Trapped Tigers videos, we've got a very creepie "Creepies" and two legs "11" to upload to our YouTube. I've had a bit of a hard time editing Creepies because most of it was unusable do to "moshing".

Not by myself, I was trying to hold back my "moshing". Sometimes I just went with it to make it easier.
So it's very choppy, I quite like it, it goes well with the err creepiness of the song.

We may be filming Nordic Giants tomorrow.
I wonder if they are Nordic? Bet their not.

I was searching in google land for them and it came up with some Nordic names,
Here are some nice ones you might want to use for a future child,

Alvis - Meaning - All wise

Alwilda - Meaning - Elf Battle

Bera - Meaning - Bear

Gundis - Meaning - Battle Maiden!

Roar - Meaning - Famous spear

Thor/Thora - Meaning - Thunder

I might change my name to Thora-Gundis Wild.

That would be fun.

So yeah, TTT coming soon, GD done, NG TBC, and T-GW maybe.

A bee related post

Beeing called the Wild Bees has led me into the deep depths of the internet looking at bee related things. I am going to share with you some of my amazing facts and finds.

Fact.
Bees can get angry
Killer Bees - are actually Africanized honey bees, hybrids of the African honey bees. These bees apparently hate the European species, a small swarm is capable of taking over the European hive firstly by killing their queen and then making it their own. Nasty

Fact.
Bees can wrestle
Killer Bees -  are actually a tag team composed of "Jumpin" Jim Bruznell and B. Brian Blair in the World Wrestling Federation  from 1985 to 1988.
They Look like this
awesome

Fact.
Some people like bees

A lot.

Fact.
Some people don't like bees

Bees are dying! And you know, without bees it's not just their sweet, sweet honey we will miss, it would be 30% of our food supply! And for vegetarians, like myself, that's probably 95%! I love eating. So don't kill bees! For every bee you kill a child will cry! SO don't do it!
Here are some ways to help save bees according to Help Save Bees

1   Stop using insecticides
2   Plant Bee-friendly plants
3   Create natural habitat gardens
4   Find out more about bees
5   Support your local beekeepers
6   Make you own 'Wild bee' house
7   Become a beekeeper
8   Lobby your local MP or MEP
9   Sign petitions banning pesticides
10 Encourage your local authority
to do more to help bees

We already have our "wild bee" house, so now we need to start doing the rest of the list. I would love to make a film about Bees! One day we will don bee suits and record something fantastic.

Find.
Beelushi
You can buy this fridge magnet from amazon if you so wish!

There are lots more facts and finds about bees, but my eyes hurt from beeing at the computer all day. I have been editing a Glass Diamond promo today, looks buzzin!

Must fly,

More from Meadowlands

We've been very busy bees since our last post.

As mentioned before here are the videos for Glass Diamond and Three trapped tigers:

It's all turned out great, we're really chuffed with the results and have had some really good feedback. A few more Three trapped tigers videos still to come - keep your eyes peeled!

WILD BEES vs MEADOWLANDS FESTIVAL

Well, it was probably the worst weather Sussex has seen since winter! But that didn't stop us from camping, making films and trespassing. Much fun was had.

We camped with Glass Diamond, shared some drinks and stories, I think there was one about a trucker and his wife.

Anyway, the first in our series of treats from the windy weekend is Zoe Konez.
We attempted some guerilla filmmaking in front of Glynde Place, but we got moved on by the Meadowlands cop car.

Snippets of that are alongside an AMAZING performance in Zoe's caravan.
Very bloody pleased with that, our first gig in a caravan!

Thanks to Zoe and Will for a great performance. And to Marina for her crowd management and bringing us our tent back :)

Fancy a bit of Zoe?
Visit her page www.myspace.com/zoekonez

More films to come from Glass Diamond and Three Trapped Tigers, I'm trying to battle with the editing today.
At both sets there was some very hyper bonkers 16 year old lads and lasses next to me, they were proper going for it. I was a bit concerned for my cameras life.
I'm going to get creative to avoid the bumps and shakes in my edit.

Dan's sound recordings turned out buzzin, but I'm sure he can tell you more about that.

Laters,

Wild Bees V.S Dan Shears & the Velveteen Orkestra

So we invited ourselves along to Brighton's Green Door Store to film the incredibly bleak but beautiful (their music that is) Dan Shears & the Velveteen Orkestra.

The footage and sound have turned out brilliantly, which of course was mildly helped along by the band's great performance!

Dan and the gang will also be making an appearance at Meadowlands Festival, so we may well be having it out with them again!

If you like what you hear from these vids, you can hear and learn more about them here.

All set for Meadowlands now (except for a sleeping bag and a hip flask - which is more important we wonder???).

Keep checking back for regular updates and videos.

La Vacance!

Went on a cheap weekend break to Dieppe a couple of weeks ago and took the zoom H2 recorder with the hope of recording some interesting french noises to make some kind of composition out of it.

One of my best mates Rich (aka Ambeson) from back in Surrey incorporates a lot of this type of music concrete/found sound stuff into his music so I thought I'd have a go. It's sort of turned into something of a tribute now I think about it. Anyway, he does a far better job of it, check out his music here

I hope to be posting some more music up soon.

Here's the track, hope you enjoy it! Feel free to comment.
